NOW Extra Strength AstaxanthinPromoted as a new and improved Astaxanthin product, we were curious to see what the NOW brand added as their new features to optimize the antioxidant and immune-boosting properties that Astaxanthin offers. Advertised as having over twice the amount of Astaxanthin as their regular strength product, this particular Astaxanthin boasts a 10 mg serving. While this is impressive, we would have liked to see the clinically researched amount of 12 mg. We appreciate that the Astaxanthin used is from the superior source Haematococcus pluvialis, and is manufactured in a GMP certified facility, however we felt that it was still lacking some key ingredients that are backed up by clinical research. Some ingredients we felt were missing included Zinc – an important antioxidant component, as well as BioPerine®, which increases the bioavailability to help active ingredients absorb quicker and more efficiently. While we were happy to see the addition of Vitamin E since it plays such a vital role in enhancing the antioxidant properties found in Astaxanthin, it is listed as one of the inactive ingredients in this product. We would have liked to see it take a more prominent position with an exact amount listed. Ultimately what won us over was the sheer amount of positive reviews despite the fact that there is no satisfaction guarantee. |

Nutricost AstaxanthinWe liked this product due to the many positive reviews we found online. We also appreciate that this product is manufactured in a GMP certified facility and is third-party tested. However, along with the positive reviews, there were a number of negative ones claiming that this product doesn’t work. The one and only ingredient in this formula is Astaxanthin. While it is served at the ideal amount of 12 mg per serving and is derived from the superior source Haematococcus pluvialis, we were disappointed that there isn’t much more to this product. We do appreciate the generous dose of Astaxanthin, but we feel that it could be that much more effective if the manufacturer had added ingredients such as Zinc, Vitamin E and BioPerine®. We were sorely disappointed that the manufacturer made no effort to add anything more to the Astaxanthin to boost its antioxidant effects. We liked that this product comes with a money-back guarantee, although it is only relevant for products purchased directly from the manufacturer’s website and doesn’t include third-party sites such as Amazon.
